Monday WOD – 062314

Amy

June Athlete of the Month, Amy!

Announcing our next Athlete of the Month, Amy Fernandes! Amy has been with us for over a year and a half now, and you would be hard pressed to find anymore more committed to working hard and improving herself. Her own harshest critic, Amy is always trying to improve in every aspect of CrossFit. Competitive and driven as she is, Amy is a teacher at heart and will be the first to help you push through a tough workout or offer words of encouragement. It’s been a privilege to work with you as you’ve grown as an athlete! Masters 2016!

How did you get involved in CrossFit? What was your first WOD/experience?
I first heard of crossfit on TV and online and knew I wanted to check it out but none of my friends would go with me. I tried for about 4 months then finally just emailed through facebook for an intro class. I went to the intro class where we were introduced to most/all of the lifts using a PVC pipe and the WOD was mostly bodyweight movements. I think I signed up the very next day 🙂

When did you start coming to Whaling City CrossFit?
I started December 2012.

Is this the first CrossFit you’ve worked out at / how long have you been CrossFitting for?
Yes, this in the first box I’ve worked out at. I’ve been crossfitting for a year & a half.

When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you?
I knew crossfit was for me before I even started. I was in a not so good place in my life and was doing p90x/insanity/asylum workouts over & over. These are great but I needed something different after a while. So when i heard about crossfit I was definitely interested. Its my time to take class instead of teach class and it was something I was doing for ME.

What is your favorite aspect of CrossFit?
My favorite aspect of crossfit besides the community at WCCF might be the fact that i feel like it never will end. I love the fact that when I accomplish something new or something I never thought I could do, I find myself wanting to do even more.

What are your short-term and long-term CrossFit goals?
Short term goal – 100lb snatch (im stuck at 95lb)
Long term goal – Muscle ups!!! …by July 2015 🙂

What is your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment was the first time I Rx’d a WOD. It was rowing & handstand walks.

How has CrossFit changed your view on health and wellness?
Crossfit actually made me more aware of my health and wellness than before, especially doing Whole 30.

What is your favorite / least favorite WOD/movement?
My favorite movement has to be double unders.
My least favorite movement is probably rowing!

What do you a do for a profession outside of CrossFit?
I own and teach dance classes at BackStage Dance Academy in New Bedford.

What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?
Dance

Do you eat Paleo, Primal or Zone? What is your favorite paleo/non-paleo meal?
I try to eat paleo as much as I can. My favorite paleo meal is a spaghetti squash pizza casserole and non paleo would be chinese food.

I always wanted to be a ballerina & I love WWE wrestling!
